An American actor of South African origin, began her life as a ballet dancer who was only 10 years old, then went to New York but her knee hurt and prevented her from continuing, and in 1994 her mother bought her a ticket to Los Angeles and started acting there. She won the Academy Award in 2003 as Best Actress.
